The Position

The Opportunity
Roche Diagnostics Middle East (RDME) is currently looking for an in-house Legal Counsel (with focus on Privacy) to join its dynamic Legal & Compliance team.
The identified candidate will play a pivotal role in providing legal guidance and support to ensure compliance, mitigate risks and facilitate RDME’s strategic objectives within a complex internal set-up and a highly regulated healthcare environment.
The identified candidate will also be responsible for advising on, training and promoting compliance with data protection and privacy laws and regulations related to RDME and its activities in the Middle East.
The identified candidate will be a member of the RDME Legal & Compliance team, reporting directly to the Regional Legal Counsel Middle East.

Main Responsibilities:
– Provide expert legal advice on an extremely wide range of legal matters to the business, including but not limited to commercial, corporate, competition and labor, data privacy law matters for the ME
– Advise colleagues on best practices and compliance requirements with Middle Eastern and global data protection laws, including legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, consent forms, and related issues.
– Draft, review and negotiate various agreements, ensuring legal protection and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
– Provide legal support for the strategic reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of privacy and data security terms in contracts with business partners and vendors, including data processing agreements and data protection terms in various agreements.
– Conduct Legal assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks and legal liabilities associated with business operations, actual policies, practices and contractual relationships
– Support and develop the company’s privacy program to enable consistent, effective data privacy practices and minimize privacy risk.
– Provide advice, education, training, and legal direction on data protection laws impacting business operations and contractual relationships.

-Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as business acumen to assess legal implications and provide sound and pragmatic recommendations
-Strong interpersonal skills that will be essential in interacting with senior stakeholders from diverse cultures and background

Expertise:
-Bachelor degree in law graduate or equivalent and bar membership in good standing is required; post graduate degree is a plus
5 to 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, in-house and/or at a law firm. Experience in GDPR and Middle Eastern data protection and privacy legal issues.
-In-depth understanding of the Middle East laws including but not limited to commercial, corporate, competition, labor, healthcare laws, regulations and compliance requirements
-Proven experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts within the healthcare sector
-Fluency in written and spoken English is required – Arabic is a plus
